I play fretted bass. How hard is it to switch to fretless?
The physical technique transfers, but intonation is the new skill — there are no frets to tell you where the note is. We train your ear and finger placement together from the first lesson, so you build reliable tuning instead of guessing.
Do I need a lined or unlined fretless to start?
Either is fine. Lines give you a visual guide while your ear catches up; unlined pushes your ear faster. We teach you to trust your ear either way, so you will play in tune on any fretless.
How do I get that smooth, vocal mwah tone?
It comes from a combination of finger placement, string contact, slides and vibrato — plus setup and technique. We build each piece deliberately so the singing tone becomes something you control, not something that happens by accident.
Do I need to read music to learn fretless bass?
No. We teach using your ear, shapes and feel. If you want to add reading bass clef or theory alongside it, we can — but it is never a barrier to starting.
Can fretless bass really be taught online?
Yes — arguably better than most. Fretless is all about intonation and phrasing, which come across clearly over live video. Your teacher can see your finger placement and hear every note, and correct your tuning in real time.
