Jazz bass, taught properly

Great jazz bass sounds relaxed and inevitable — but behind it sits real harmony, strong time and a deep vocabulary.

Our online jazz bass lessons build that foundation step by step: chord tones, walking lines, comping and the feel that makes a rhythm section swing.

No vague theory. Just the harmony you can actually use on the bandstand, explained clearly and applied to real tunes.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

Jazz Bass Lessons — your questions

Do I need to read music to learn jazz bass?

It helps, and we can build your reading alongside everything else — but you do not need it to start. We teach walking lines and harmony using chord tones and shapes you can see and hear, then add reading and lead-sheet skills as you go.

I play rock or pop bass. Can I move into jazz?

Yes — that is one of the most common journeys we guide. We will use the time and technique you already have and focus on the new part: hearing changes, choosing notes and building lines that swing.

Do I need an upright bass, or is electric fine?

Electric bass is completely fine. Everything we teach — walking lines, harmony, feel and soloing — applies directly. If you later move to upright, the musical foundation transfers straight across.

How long until I can walk over a standard?

Most students are walking a simple, musical line over a blues or an easy standard within a few weeks of consistent practice. We build strong, clear lines first, then add speed and decoration.

Can jazz bass really be taught online?

Yes. Jazz bass is about time, harmony and note choice — all of which come across clearly over live video. Your teacher can hear your lines against the changes, correct them in real time and guide you tune by tune.
